DAD

My sister got married last year and I promised her a painting for a gift.  This painting holds many memories, it is my Dad's leather jacket and hat he wore to church and for special occasions.  It also contains a red rose, because we had a rose bush in the yard and he would come in from outside carrying one and say "Here a Rose".  My Dad has been gone now for 19 years and was one of the most loving people I know.  Most people say his hugs always felt so warm and loving and my friend wrote a poem when he passed away called "The Harold Hug".  Every year our family gets together to have dinner in his honor and reconnect.  His birthday is February 24, so it was nice to do this at this time.  I will present it to her at the dinner which occurs this Saturday.

Metal and Eggs

This was a fun painting. I loved learning how to make the canister look metal and the eggs be so real.  It is amazing to see how small strokes can come together and start appearing as they should.  Just wanted to share one of my latest paintings.

Red-Tailed Hawk

I know it has been a while since I have posted something, and I took off this Summer from art due to many family activities.  This is the last painting I have done.  It is a red-tailed hawk that I did for my brother.  This hawk has quite a bit of sentimental value for our family.  My Dad passed away in 1996, and it seems that whenever we need to have some guidance or something to be okay, there appears a red-tailed hawk close by.  This was very difficult to give away with so much meaning, but I know it went to a wonderful person who will cherish it also.

Unlikely Pear

Greetings!  This current post is named "Unlikely Pear" and was painted for a fundraising event for Juvenile Diabetes.  It will be exhibited at a silent auction to be held on March 8, 2014.  The event is called Beta Cell Bash and it is the third year for the event.   The event kicks off in Fountain Square at New Day Meadery at 6 p.m. with an art show/silent auction.  Across the street is Radio Radio where multiple bands will play Johnny Cash songs beginning at 8 p.m.  Tickets can be purchased online at futureshock.net.  This is a cause close to me as my godchild has had diabetes since an early age.  Please consider a night out filled with art, music and fundraising for the Indiana Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).  I am excited to be able to contribute to this cause to bring joy and hope to others.  Thank you to Steve Hetrick who has been my support and having the faith in me as an artist to contribute.  Thank you also to him for naming the painting and delivering it for me.

Dust Bowl

It has been a while since I have posted.  I just completed this painting last night and signed it, so that means I can't tweak it anymore.  I could mess with it forever, but at some point just have to call it done.  This is a sepia, oil on canvas, that I painted from a famous black and white photo from the Dust Bowl.  It seemed a bit intimidating when I first looked at this photo and wasn't sure if I would do in charcoal or oil, or even if it would turn out well.  This is my brother's favorite painting and I did this as a surprise to him by request of a friend.  Excited to deliver tomorrow evening.

Boots

Above is a painting I did one evening for a very sweet friend.  This was inspired by my brother and I was excited to be able to deliver this gift last night.
